Our Opportunity:

The Trading Technology organization within Charles Schwab & Co.'s Technology Services organization is looking to hire an experienced and hands-on Sr. Manager to run the technology team which supports the firm’s Trading platform. The goal of this team is to partner closely with our business partners to define and enable innovative technology solutions for the Trading. This is a dynamic area that will be undergoing significant technology and process transformation over the next several years. The Sr. Manager directly reports to the Managing Director and will be a senior and trusted leader for business and technology partners in helping drive effective decision making, delivery of projects, and responsible for all aspects of the team including recruiting, performance management, career growth and supporting our development, technology and business partners’ needs.

What you’ll do:

  • Effectively lead a large team of Agile oriented and highly technical full-time & offshore technology professionals

  • Work closely with business partners to define the technology strategy and roadmap that is aligned with business strategies

  • Ensure systems are architected and designed around availability

  • Develop and preserve high performing teams

  • Act as a technology thought leader, Influences business and technology stakeholders to ensure we implement the best solutions for the company

  • Manage relationships with internal business partners and technology partners, ensuring a positive and collaborative work environment with shared accountability and responsibility

  • Assume overall accountability for delivering projects and small enhancements and all technology initiatives in an effective and efficient manner

  • Quickly intervene to resolve any issues that arise

  • Drive success and engagement of the team by providing development opportunities, communicating the vision and the roadmap, and ensuring they understand the business impact of their work

  • Lead all staffing (selection and hiring), budgeting, and allocation of resources, performance management, and career development of the team

  • Ensure the team complies with all Schwab technology standards and policies

What you have:

  • BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related degree

  • 8+ years of software development management/leadership experience

  • 5+ years’ experience running medium to large/complex projects with multiple internal / external dependencies

  • 3+ years’ experience providing oversight to multiple Agile teams

  • 3+ years’ Trading Technology experience

  • Demonstrated ability to define, communicate strategy and vision and influence across the organization is essential

  • Hands on experience with software Architecture and Design, C++/ C#/ Java

  • Ability to effectively inspire and influence teams and partners in delivering technology enabled business solutions that exceed business expectations

  • Technical professional experience building scalable enterprise applications with high availability and reliability; strong technology affinity and experience, as well as attention to detail and the ability to design, execute against strategic goals

  • Ability to execute at scale in a dynamic environment, build strong relationships and promote collaboration, identify talent, recruit, hire, coach, mentor and build high performing technical teams; experience setting direction, tracking progress, and ensuring accountability

  • Strong passion for understanding emerging technologies and their relevance of usage in trading technology

  • Ability to analyze, propose and implement timely, cost effective, quality solutions for all issues or problems within area of responsibility

  • Strong influencing, negotiation, and, problem-solving skills with an ability to identify stakeholders, assess their needs and manage their expectations through effective communication

  • Ability to independently manage things as a contributing member in a fast-paced environment across multiple time zones and locations

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
