The Staff Software Development Engineer will with work with technical and business partners to design, develop and maintain solutions for the Offer Order portfolio of customers within Schwab. Job activities will involve solution development, technical research, process documentation and supporting the tools and processes to drive strategic planning discussions with technical, business and client stakeholders. We are modernizing our existing solutions with Java, Spring Boot, Microservice Architecture, Pivotal Cloud Foundry and Mongo DB. The ideal candidate has experience with these tools and is ready to be a part of a highly interactive agile scrum team dedicated to delivering high quality solutions.
What you’ll do:
Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement and support technical solutions across a full-stack of development tools and technologies.
Partner with product owners and the scrum team to understand the desired solution requirements and capabilities.
Develop effective solutions that are in line with the organization's vision.
Continuously improve software engineering practices, processes and services.
Participate in strategic planning discussions with technical, business and client stakeholders.
Actively participate in product design and development sessions.
Work with, mentor and guide developers across geographical boundaries
Develop efficient and easy to follow technical diagrams/documents, develop high quality code and automated test scripts.
Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal technology communities and mentor other members of the team.
Act as liaison between technical and non-technical counterparts.
Strong problem-solving, debugging and troubleshooting skills to provide detailed root cause analysis.
Able to work independently and in paired/mob programming scenarios.
What you have:
3-4 years' of Software Development experience the following: Java, Spring framework, cloud development and Web Services (REST, SOAP), supporting high volume transactions in a Highly Available environment.
1+ years' of experience in Cloud deployment in a CI/CD model.
1+ years' of experience with continuous build process using Bamboo, Bitbucket/Git, or similar tools.
1+ years' of experience in Distributed Databases – Redis or MongoDB.
Experience supporting Quality Assurance efforts through the development of automated Unit and Integration tests for web service APIs and UIs.
Experience with the Agile methodology and Agile working environments and tools such as JIRA, Confluence, etc.
Proficient in developing Visio diagrams, technical and functional documents.
Experience in building and supporting Event driven systems using RabbitMQ or similar.
Experience working collaboratively with teammates in different geographical locations and offshore vendors.
Positive attitude, enthusiasm, professionalism and a strong work ethic with a high level of energy.
Must be independent and capable of learning new skills and product features quickly.
Team player with outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to analyze and solve problems creatively.
Ability to meet deadlines, goals and objectives.
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent degree.
Understands and can help educate others on the merits of BDD and TDD.
Experience in 12-Factor Cloud Native Apps, public cloud or Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF).
Prior experience in IT Transformations and system modernization initiatives from legacy to distributed platforms; i.e. Mainframe Cobol apps/DB2 to Java apps/SQL or Mongo DB.
Experience with and/or general understanding of the core tenets of Service Reliability Engineering.
Experience with our testing tools: JMeter, Cucumber, Protractor or Zephyr.
Some understanding of Web Services virtualization.
Working knowledge of DevOps principles.
Knowledge of the following Mainframe tools/software: Batch Processing, Cobol and DB2 is a plus .
