Charles Schwab Investment Management (CSIM) is the asset management arm of the Charles Schwab Corporation, and has over $340 billion under management in mutual funds and ETFs. Products managed include a wide variety of active and indexed equity, fixed income, and asset allocation strategies, as well as money markets funds. The Charles Schwab Investment Management Sales Analytic team is embedded within the sales team to provide close alignment and support to sales. We are sales people using analytic tools and techniques to drive enhanced sales outcomes. One’s contribution can be seen daily in the effectiveness of the sales team’s outreach, Marketo campaigns, and deepening of existing client relationships. We are looking for a highly-motivated, self-driven data scientist to help deliver actionable opportunities, insights, and leads to the Sales Team.
What You’ll Do:
The Senior Manager, Data Scientist, CSIM Sales Analytics, will be primarily responsible for developing, tuning, and socializing targeting models with the sales team and leadership, as well as, building out our prospect and client segmentation strategies across the different channels. This role will help shape the infrastructure and framework of an established and evolving data environment within CSIM, to support the machine learning, modeling and advanced analytics.
He/she will structure and analyze unstructured and disparate data to derive insights and prescribe action using advanced statistical methods that explain or predict customer behavior to increase prospect and client use of CSIM’s mutual funds, ETFs, and collective trust funds. They will define data to pursue and apply data mining techniques to acquire. They will cleanse and transform messy, incomplete, and unstructured data on which to perform analytics/predictive modeling. Perform a variety of statistical modeling techniques, time series regression, segmentation, predictive modeling, econometric modeling, and marketing mix modeling, to describe or predict patterns in the data. They will collaborate with direct data support functions in operationalizing data access and structuring processes.
The primary responsibilities of the Data Scientist will include, but not be limited to:
Working directly with sales leadership to explore new opportunities, and proactively analyzing the data to surface untapped insights to drive additional sales and client engagement
Work independently or collaboratively throughout the complete analytics project lifecycle including data extraction/preparation, analysis, activation, and presentation of results
Approach analytical problems with an appropriate blend of statistical/mathematical rigor with practical business intuition. Approaching analyses in multiple ways in order to evaluate methods and compare results
Supporting and/or driving the development of tools and infrastructure to scale operations, increase efficiencies, and improve quality of results
Work with engineers to evangelize data best practices and implement analytic solutions
Partner with technical and non-technical colleagues across the business to leverage their support and drive adoption of analytics recommendations

What you have:
Displaying strong business acumen and communication skills, the Senior Manager will communicate analytical results to business partners to help drive a measurable lift in Sales effectiveness. Our Sales colleagues place great emphasis on our ability to translate statistical and mathematical results in a way that tells a clear story and guides them in actionable leads and campaigns. One must be able to convey complex technical solutions into layperson’s terms so they can engage into the process and believe in the outcomes.
Bachelor’s degree required. A degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering or similar quantitative field highly preferred.
Graduate degree in a quantitative field highly preferred
8+ years’ experience in an analytical role (consulting to external clients and/or internal business partners) and a consistent track record of performing data analysis using SQL, Alteryx, R, and/or Python.
Strong understanding of how analytics supports outcomes, including being able to successfully articulate the linkage between business decisions, business objectives, and analytical approaches & findings
Excellent analytical skills with demonstrated ability to solve problems, and convey the analytical method and output to non-technical partners
Programming experience in multiple languages and environments (Teradata, Oracle, R, Alteryx)
Ability to work with large transactional databases across multiple platforms
Outstanding oral and written communication
Strong interpersonal skills to successfully build long-term relationships with colleagues and business partners
Experience in financial services would be a plus, but not a requirement
