The Corporate Controller's Department is responsible for all financial accounting and reporting for the Charles Schwab Corporation and subsidiaries. In collaboration with our business partners we provide comprehensive financial information to our various constituencies including shareholders, management, regulatory and tax authorities. We also play an important role in advising our business partners as to the accounting and reporting implications of proposed business transactions, as well as developments in GAAP and applicable regulatory reporting regimes within which the firm operates.
The Sr. Team Manager will manage the corporate accounting close and consolidation function within the Corporate Controller’s division. The role is responsible for maintaining a SOX compliant internal control environment. Staff management and development responsibilities for approximately 4 employees. This role reports to the Director of Corporate Accounting in Denver.
What you’ll do:
Responsible for the monthly consolidation of 30+ domestic and foreign entities
Responsible for preparation of the monthly financial close reporting package for Sr. Management, including extensive variance analysis
Interface and provide financial support to external auditors and regulators
Responsible for maintaining intercompany agreements and reviewing intercompany transactions
Responsible for the detailed review of balance sheet and income statement accounts
Hands-on direct contributor
Leads and develops the corporate accounting team
Execute controls that ensure that the books and records of the parent company and various subsidiaries are maintained in a SOX compliant manner, including detailed review and ownership of select balance sheet account reconciliations
Work closely with business partners, Corporate FP&A and various other internal organizations to ensure timely and accurate recording of business transactions
Quality control, and continuous process improvement are key responsibilities
Substanial involvement in special projects and ad-hoc requests
What you have:
10+ years’ experience of consolidation and month-end close functions in medium to large companies
10+ years’ experience managing individuals and accounting teams
10+ years’ experience in dealing with external auditors and regulators
Solid understanding of accounting rules for consolidations and eliminations, debt, foreign currency, international accounting and contingent reserves.
Understanding of the key elements of a month-end accounting close and consolidation specific internal control environment
Familiar with the capabilities of large-company enterprise reporting systems. PeopleSoft Financial experience a plus
Articulates views in a clear and concise manner. Describes complex technical issues in a way that non-experts can understand
Constructively challenges existing processes with the aim of enhancing controls
Proactive, results-oriented operating style
Ability to quickly analyze issues and present workable solutions that are in the best interest of our business partners
Effectively leads and develops people and promotes staff engagement. Proven team building experience
Exceptional at building internal and cross-functional relationships
Certified public accountant
Public-company experience a plus
Financial services industry experience a plus
Public Accounting Experience a plus
Bachelor's degree in Accounting
