Our Opportunity:

The Technology Infrastructure Solutions (TIS) PMO Portfolio Manager will be responsible for overseeing the full portfolio of infrastructure projects sponsored through the Schwab Technology Services (STS) organization. The ideal candidate will have: a high degree of interest in project management and IT infrastructure; experience developing a Project Management Office into an organizational center of excellence; passion around guiding and coaching project managers to increase project delivery quality; and strong analytical and organizational skills. The Portfolio Manager will be expected to “own” his/her areas of responsibility, and actively identify and pursue continuous improvement opportunities working alongside PMO leadership. (Note: This is not a Program Manager role.)

What you’ll do:

The TIS PMO Portfolio Manager will report to TIS PMO management, and will be accountable for / own the following:

  • Develop and manage key stakeholder relationships, able to evangelize the TIS PMO services and brand.

  • Matrix manage project management resources relative to areas of accountability and influence, bringing excellent relational talent to the group.

  • Develop professional portfolio and project management standards and ensure they are implemented and maintained across the body of projects managed through the TIS PMO.

  • Have comprehensive knowledge of projects in the TIS PMO portfolio, which includes all projects under PMO management, regardless of dependency or program alignment.

  • Develop, gather and report metrics that describe and analyze the state of the portfolio.

  • Provide governance oversight to the projects in the portfolio, ensuring Project Manager adherence to TIS PMO standards.

  • Track in-progress projects, and work with Project Managers to elevate and remediate risks and issues.

  • Represent the TIS PMO during internal and/or external audits; own the TIS PMO controls ongoing, updating as appropriate.

  • Engage in formulating accurate resource requirements with stakeholders early in the project lifecycle and ongoing (i.e., demand management).

  • Prioritize the project portfolio as per accepted criteria and available information, and assign resources.

  • Represent the TIS PMO in broader meetings around process, procedures, and standards.

  • Actively identify, propose and drive agreed upon continuous improvement initiatives to meet changing business needs.

  • Help TIS PMO Project Managers model professional project delivery performance and behaviors to ensure the TIS PMO is a first choice resource pool for stakeholders sponsoring projects.

  • Involvement in making decisions on which tools will be used to manage the project portfolio.

  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of project resources, as business requirements and funding dictate.

  • Energize team dynamic with thought leadership, creativity, and enthusiasm!

  • Stretch: Ensure that IT projects delivered enable sponsors to realize agreed upon benefits

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical, project management or business related discipline preferred.

  • 8+ years professional work experience required, preferably in project management.

  • Experience managing IT Infrastructure related projects

  • Experience developing a Project Management Office into an organizational center of excellence

  • Passion around guiding and coaching project managers to increase project delivery quality

  • Must be self-motivated and able to work autonomously, as well as in a team environment.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including PowerPoint presentation development.

  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, lookups, etc.).

  • Proficiency in extracting data from Clarity preferred.

  • Must be able to manage a variety of responsibilities concurrently.

  • Knowledge of various lifecycle methodologies (e.g., Waterfall, RUP, Agile).

  • Accreditation in a project management or process improvement discipline preferred (e.g.,Project Management Professional, LEAN, Six Sigma, etc.).
