Our Opportunity:

This position is part of the Managed Account and Alternative Investment Solutions team, within the Asset Management Client Solutions organization. Our team supports the separately managed account (SMA) and alternative investment platforms at Schwab with the goal of maintaining Schwab’s leadership position.

This product team is responsible for navigating, maintaining and evolving these product platforms which play a critical role in our clients and business partner’s success. As an individual contributor Relationship Manager you will be working in a team oriented environment that helps support the continued growth of our multi-billion dollar managed account and alternative investment platforms that we offer to Schwab’s retail and institutional customers and to continue to add value to clients, third-party product providers and Schwab’s bottom line.

What you’ll do:

The Money Manager Relations (MMR) team is responsible for managing all aspects of a money manager’s relationship to meet both Schwab and the money manager’s needs. The Relationship Manager is a critical role within MMR that acts as the money manager’s primary point of contact for everything related to managed accounts. The key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the primary Schwab contact for an assigned group of SMA money management firms

  • Interacting with SMA managers to make sure their firm, product, and distribution information is current

  • Negotiating with money managers to establish contract terms, fees, and other aspects of participating in Schwab SMA programs

  • Vetting money managers to establish they meet the business requirements to do business with Schwab clients

  • Build and maintain strong internal relationships with Operations, Research, Service, Legal, Product management and Sales groups, all of whom support and interact with money managers

  • Conducting meetings and calls with money managers to both understand their businesses more thoroughly as well as educate them about working successfully with Schwab

  • Resolving business escalations that arise from money manager contacts

  • Understanding money manager sales and marketing activity and recording interactions and data in Salesforce

What you have:

  • 8+ years of relevant and proven financial industry experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience required

  • Strong investment management knowledge around asset classes and strategies as well as product knowledge of SMA and/or Mutual Fund, Exchange Traded Fund, or Alternative Investments

  • Ability to work autonomously with a focus on problem solving as well as an eye towards positive outcomes with a “customer service” mindset

  • Ability to build and sustain strong trusted partnerships with money managers, peers, and colleagues in other work groups based on mutual trust

  • Positive attitude with excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Desire to learn new processes and gain valuable industry knowledge

  • Detail orientation, organization, and follow through

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required, Salesforce or other CRM user proficiency preferred

  • FINRA Series 7 preferred

  • CFP, CIMA, other relevant industry designations a plus
