Our Opportunity:

This is a specialized position that will drive daily activities of the data governance function for Schwab’s reference, fundamental, and market data platforms, which includes descriptive, pricing, and performance data for nearly 7 million unique securities and publishing of this data to numerous trading and client facing systems across the firm. Additionally, this role will support governance functions for the market data platform that provides real-time quotes and trade data from the exchanges, as well as charts, news and volume information. This position will help to enable a data driven culture by making data more accessible and available, enabling speed to insight, and ensuring a sound and robust data environment. What you’ll do:

This position will partner with business, platform, and technology owners to systematically identify data within the respective business area, determine its ownership, and assess the risk associated with the data. They will collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to create meaningful business metadata while complying with firm standards and leveraging best practices. Additionally, they will work with technical SMEs to create the associated technical metadata while relating it to the business metadata and documenting the data lineage so there is a common understanding of how the data moves across the various firm systems. For the most critical data, they will partner with business and technical SMEs to define and create data quality rules to ensure there is high data quality across the platforms.

What you have:

This team member will demonstrate ownership of all data governance activities and will facilitate periodic local data governance forum meetings and execute processes while ensuring the business area complies with firm data governance standards. They will collaborate with other data governance practitioners and the Data Governance Office to develop and implement best practices and consistency. The ideal candidate will have expertise in financial services, specifically with reference and market data, and experience in practicing data governance. This role can be hired in Austin, Texas or Westlake, Texas, and reports to the Managing Director, Data Governance.

Specific experience:

  • At least 4 years or more of experience preferred in data governance and/or data management

  • Prefer financial services industry experience of at least 2 years

  • Strong analytic skills and the ability to effectively distill financial concepts into robust business metadata that can be easily understood by others

  • Experience in training others on standards, processes and policies related to governance and applications preferred

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization

  • An undergraduate degree is required

  • FINRA security licenses series 7 preferred

  • Additional FINRA security licenses preferred
